Livin’ On The Water
Nashville might seem surprisingly blessed with boat-friendly waterways for a city known as a mecca of country music.
We have two major lakes within a few miles of downtown and have the luxury of many lake front homes with boat dock access to these waterways. The major source of water for Middle Tennessee is the Cumberland River, which winds past LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans and infamous Ryman Auditorium. The river snakes up to Lake Cumberland in Southeastern Kentucky. Just a few miles outside of Nashville past the beautiful Gaylord Opryland Hotel, the river is dammed to form Old Hickory Lake, which offers miles and miles of shoreline.
Old Hickory Lake’s shoreline attracts those souls drawn to bodies of water. The adult human body is 60 to 65% water, which could be a physiological factor in why we seem to be drawn to water. Whether you are looking for a beautiful view to rest your weary mind or a hydro-playground in your back yard for your family to fish, ski and enjoy spending quality time together, lake living has so much to offer.
A day on the lake can feel like a mini-vacation and homes with your own dock make spending a few hours of solace on the lake more convenient than ever.
The Nashville Boat Club, Bluegrass Yacht & Country Club, and Cedar Creek Marina cater to Old Hickory Lake. Several restaurants offer boaters amenities and dining alongside the shores of Old Hickory.
It’s more important today to have a local expert to guide you through the different areas, coves and “hot” spots to get the most bang for your buck on Old Hickory Lake. Many lake homes are found through having my finger on the pulse of lake-front real estate. Lake homes appreciate in value at an accelerated rate compared to other homes. Dock permits are held with a tight fist from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and older homes with great views and grandfathered docks still retain their value.
